por·nog·ra·phy
Noun.
1. Pictures, writing, or other material that is sexually explicit and sometimes equates sex with power and violence.
2. The presentation or production of this material.
What is pornography?
If you don't know what Pornography is, then you have not been using the internet very long.
Pornography, according to the dictionary definition, is sexually explicit pictures, writing, and other materials.
Who uses pornography?
The vast majority of pornography users are men, however some women partake as well. Some couples use pornography in an attempt to "spice up" their sex life.
* Since there are so many more men than women who are into pornography, I will discuss the ills of pornography from a man's point of view.
Pornography is not harmful, is it?
Pornography is as addictive as any drug. When a man witnesses a sexual act, certain chemicals are released into his brain, burning the sexual image into his mind.
Pornography destroys a man's normal sexual apetite, and distorts his sense of sexuality.
But what is wrong with pictures of pretty women?
A man addicted to pornography is not merely interested in looking at pictures of naked women. He soons begins to crave more erotic pictures, moving from soft-core to hard-core pornography.
Each new level of sexually explicit images only soothes his cravings for a while. He begins to spiral downward, needing stronger images, extreme-hard-core.
Won't a man be satisfied with looking at naked women?
Nothing "normal" will satisfy a pornography addict's sexual apetite.
Soon, the addict will find himself looking at images of younger and younger "women", perhaps even going as far as looking at images of naked children.
Sadly, this is never enough for an addict. He needs his fix. He needs that "extra little bit", and so he digs deeper and deeper into the bizarre world of "erotica".
The addict may soon be viewing images of homosexuality, group sex, rape, incest, beastiality, or even worse.
Ok, so some men like pornography. What's the big deal?
The "Big Deal" is that these men have a completely distorted view of what sex is all about.
What a man carries in his heart is often made manifest in his relationships with other people.
If he is married, or has a girlfriend with whom he is sexually active, he may want that person to watch porno movies with him, and "get into it".
An addict may even insist on it.
What is the harm if his wife watches some porn with him?
Well, for one thing, a porn addict will view his wife as a sexual object, and be only interested in his own sexual fulfillment.
Becuase he is an addict, he will need to explore more and more bizarre and kinky sexual fantasies. He will want his wife to partake in these fantasies, and may even want to act them out in real life.
Pornography will destroy any hope of intamacy between this couple!
You speak of intimacy. Isn't that another name for sex?
Most of the sex that goes on in the world is not intamacy. It is lust.
We are taught in the Bible that lust is a sin. To even lust after one's own wife is a sin!
Intimacy is when a husband and wife make love to each other, in a caring, nurturing way. It is much more than a physical act. It involves love, tenderness, compassion.
Both the husband and the wife are renewed and their love for each other is strengthened. This is God's plan for sexual intimacy.
What about couples who think it might "spice up their sex lives"?
These people are being deceived. Pornography will keep them from having true intamacy, and will ultimately destroy their sex lives.
Any Christian who dabbles with pornography must immediately repent, and ask Jesus to forgive them. There is no lee-way here. Pornography destroys lives. Period!
How can someone break their addiction to pornography?
As with any sin, ask Jesus Christ to enter into your heart, and forgive you of your sins. Ask him to heal you of your addiction, and to remove the lustful desires from your heart.
Throw away your porno books. Destroy your movies. Burn the magazines. Delete the images on you computer. Stay away from any websites that will tempt you. Don't surf the channels on your TV late at night.
Stay away from all the sexually corrupt aspects of our society. Fill your mind with good things. Fill your mind with God's Holy Word.
When you find yourself being tempted, drop down to your knees and pray to Jesus to strenghten you. He is a kind and caring God. He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability to resist.
